Sustainability

We are strongly committed to ESG principles, which are embedded into our approach to investing and day to day lives.

Sustainability matters

Firetrail has a clear ESG policy based on principals of ownership, measurement and engagement:

1

Own it – each analyst owns ESG for their coverage. Analysts are the experts.
2

Measure it – ESG issues are investment issues. They must be measured and valued.
3

Engage on it – Firetrail actively engages to address key ESG concerns.

Firetrail also actively engages with company management and Boards on key issues that are important to us and our investors such as Gender Diversity, Modern Slavery prevention and Sustainability issues. Please refer to our ESG policy for examples of issues and opportunities we may probe when evaluating a company’s ESG credentials.

In FY23, Firetrail conducted more than 330 company meetings with an explicit focus on Environmental, Social or Governance issues. Please see our Stewardship Report for more detail.

Firetrail acknowledges the findings of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and supports the United Nation Paris Agreement to limit global warming to below 2°C compared to pre-industrial levels, as adopted at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP21) in Paris, France, on 12 December 2015. Firetrail recognise that environmental impacts, such as climate change, can impact the value of investments, and aim to incorporate fundamental views on the impact of climate change in our investment decision making.

Community contribution

Key sponsorships and initiatives are proudly supported by the Firetrail team.

The Mirabel Foundation

Firetrail is a proud sponsor of The Mirabel Foundation, the only organisation in Australia specifically addressing the needs of children who have been orphaned or abandoned due to parental drug use. The Mirabel Foundation is driven by the simple, core belief that every child deserves a childhood filled with love, hope and belonging.

Firetrail supports Mirabel’s programs in the NSW Hunter Valley, where the number of children negatively affected by parental drug use in the region continues to grow. The funding provides young people with intensive youth support and therapeutic group activities – giving them the chance to practise a variety of life skills including conflict resolution, personal safety awareness, positive communication and developing a sense of responsibility for themselves and others.

Firetrail staff have also volunteered with Mirabel at their Big Day Out events in Sydney as part of Mirabel’s recreation and respite programs for children and their carers.

Future Generation Australia

Firetrail is a proud sponsor of Future Generation Australia (FGX). FGX gives investors the opportunity to gain unprecedented access to a group of prominent Australian fund managers in a single investment vehicle while supporting Australian charities focused on children and youth at risk.

National Aboriginal Sporting Chance Academy (NASCA)

Firetrail is a proud sponsor of the National Aboriginal Sporting Chance Academy (NASCA). NASCA utilises the power of structured educational, sporting and cultural programs to harness the aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people. For over 25 years, NASCA has worked closely with communities to strengthen cultural pride and identity, and build life skills, personal development and long-term resilience.

As a result of Firetrail’s support, NASCA has established the ‘CareerFit’ program. This program is designed to help students in years 10-12 plan for their futures beyond school by providing them with exposure to a variety of educational and career pathways, Aboriginal role models and hands on workplace experience.

Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery

Firetrail is a proud sponsor of Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery. As bushfires have affected communities across Australia on an unprecedented scale, Red Cross is providing practical, local support where it’s needed to tens of thousands of people during and after the emergencies.

Workplace Giving Program

Firetrail offers a Workplace Giving Program to all employees, with donations to any charity of choice being matched by the company up to $50.00 per employee per month. Firetrail also covers all associated administration costs, so 100% of employee donations and applicable matching amounts are directed to their chosen charities. Regular, monthly support via Workplace Giving programs is exceptionally valuable as a steady income stream for recipients, while supporting every employee’s specific interests and passions.
