Don’t buy your father-in-law beer this year!
Beer consumption has been in steady decline since 1973, with the average Australian drinking half as much beer as 50 years ago.
Interestingly, total average alcohol consumption has been flat as wine and spirits have been growing. Note that traditional wine is in decline, but high excise in spirits has seen strong growth in ‘wine-based spirits’.
