What are Active ETFs?

Active ETFs are actively managed by fund managers to generate alpha and outperform relevant benchmarks. They are also sometimes known as Exchange Quoted Managed Funds (EQMFs), Exchange Traded Managed Funds (ETMFs), listed managed funds or quoted managed funds.

Active ETFs will aim to beat the benchmark using a number of active investing strategies. They operate in a similar way to traditional managed funds but have the benefit of transparent, live intra-day pricing and market-making capability.

Investors invest in the active ETF by using a stockbroker, financial adviser or share trading platform.

S3GO units should generally trade on the ASX close to the prevailing Net Asset Value during the ASX trading day (subject to the market bid/offer spread). You can buy and sell units off market with the Responsible Entity at the prevailing end of day Net Asset Value (subject to transaction costs and spreads).

Investors who apply for units directly with the Responsible Entity may pay a different price per unit to an investor who purchases those units on the ASX at the same time, and such differences may have a material impact on the performance of that investment.

POSITIVE CHANGE / FUTURE LEADER / CURRENT LEADER / SUSTAINABLE EDGE INFORMATION

Firetrail aims to buy companies it believes may benefit from positive change in their business, industry or markets, or meet one or more of Firetrail’s proprietary sustainable investment themes, which have been grouped from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Positive change in this context refers to changes made by companies to implement one or more of Firetrail’s sustainable investment themes. Each company under consideration for the S3GO portfolio is assessed fundamentally by Firetrail to determine whether it currently meets, or is expected to within a 5-year investment horizon meet, one or more of Firetrail’s sustainable investment themes. Companies that do not meet at least one of Firetrail’s sustainable investment themes will not be included in the S3GO portfolio, and where Firetrail determines an investment no longer meets one of its sustainable investment themes, such investment will be divested as soon as reasonably practicable.

Sustainable edge refers to Firetrail’s investment philosophy that sustainable companies deserve premium valuations. That is, companies that the market perceives to have sustainable characteristics, such as good environmental practices, a social license to continue operations over the long-term, or strong corporate governance, deserve premium valuations relative to companies that do not.
